Dunkin’ Donuts (NASDAQ:DNKN) has launched a nationwide tasting event to give away free samples of its new summer drink on Friday. The new Frozen Dunkin’ Coffee is made with a special extract featuring 100 percent Arabica coffee blended with ice and dairy for a rich, sweet and creamy beverage. Frozen Dunkin’ Coffee can be customized with any Dunkin’ Donuts flavor swirl or flavor shot, as well as the choice of cream or whole or skim milk.
Dunkin’ Donuts introduced Frozen Dunkin’ Coffee at the beginning of May as a permanent addition to its coffee lineup. The company is offering samples of the beverage on Friday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., while supplies last. The complimentary sample measures 3.5 ounces.
The company’s new Frozen Coffee blended beverage is replacing the chain’s cult favorite Coffee Coolatta. The Coffee Coolatta is a large frozen mocha with cream that comes in at 990 calories and 133 grams of sugar. Dunkin’ Donuts swapped the drinks because the Coolatta wasn’t up to the chain’s standards, according to executives speaking at the company’s media day in March. Dunkin’ Donuts says the Frozen Coffee is a more nutritionally reasonable option, with a large with cream containing 840 calories and 125 grams of sugar.
The launch is part of Dunkin’ Donuts’s “Freeze the Day with $1K” celebration. During the event, Dunkin’ Donuts will surprise select customers at counters throughout the country with $1,000 cash and a summer’s supply of Frozen Dunkin’ Coffee. There is no purchase necessary to win the prizes, but participants must be aged 18 or older. The official rules can be found at http://dunkinpromotions.com/.
The company is also offering special daily deals for both existing DD Perks Rewards members and anyone who enrolls in the program during the event. The company says that DD Perks members will earn a free beverage, worth 200 points, with the purchase of a Frozen Coffee on May 19. There is a limit of one bonus point offer per DD Perks member.
Dunkin’ Donuts is also offering a one-day-only Snapchat Geofilter on May 19 that will add an icy motif to your image. The fun design can be unlocked at any Dunkin’ Donuts’ U.S. location on Friday only.
As coffee culture increasingly becomes mainstream, numerous companies are changing to emphasize more coffee-centric beverages. Dunkin’ Donuts has begun to serve nitro cold brew coffee in five locations, with plans to expand to more locations soon. The company also sells iced coffee, cold espresso beverages, and ready-to-drink bottled iced coffees.
