Biohaven (NYSE: BHVN) seals Ono license with $80 million upfront

What happened

Biohaven Ltd. (NYSE: BHVN) said Ono Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. will get an exclusive license for its MoDE IgG degraders in Asia. The deal covers Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and ASEAN member states. It is led by BHV-1300 and includes BHV-1310 and BHV-1320. Biohaven said it will receive $80 million at execution, another $20 million on a milestone anticipated within a year, and about 20% royalties on Ono net sales in the licensed territory.

Biohaven keeps all rights outside the territory, including the US, Europe and China. The company said the agreement covers development and commercialization rights there. The release dated October 8, 2026 said BHV-1300 is in Phase 3 for Graves' disease and remains an investigational small molecule. It also said a Phase 1b study produced deep reductions in the pathogenic autoantibody to the TSH receptor, rapid normalization of free T3 and free T4, and improvement in symptoms.

Why it matters

OptimistFi's case is that Biohaven's value depends on turning pipeline science into clinical proof before financing pressure overwhelms the upside. This filing gives the company immediate cash and a regional partner while leaving the rest of the MoDE portfolio with Biohaven. The upfront payment is 80% of the up to $100 million near-term package, so most of the announced cash arrives now.

The release also described this as Biohaven's first regional collaboration for an extracellular protein degrader. That matters because the filing points to a financing path that does not require Biohaven to give up US, Europe or China rights to its lead platform. The counterweight is that the remaining $20 million is contingent on a milestone and the royalty stream depends on future Ono sales.

What's next

The next dated test is the milestone Biohaven said is anticipated within a year after execution of the agreement. If Ono hits it, Biohaven gets another $20 million and the package shifts further toward earned economics. If not, the filing leaves Biohaven with the upfront cash and a royalty stream tied to future Ono sales.
