Why it matters
OptimistFi's case is that Ladder's value depends on funding access and disciplined credit selection more than headline asset growth. The quarter is mixed for that view because total assets rose to $6.04 billion from $5.15 billion at December 31, 2025, while debt obligations, net rose to $4.35 billion from $3.51 billion. OptimistFi's calculation puts total assets up 17.3% and debt obligations, net up 23.8% over the same stretch.
Cash and cash equivalents were $41.78 million, restricted cash was $21.43 million, and securities were $2.28 billion at September 30, 2026. Mortgage loans receivable held for investment, net, at amortized cost was $2.95 billion, up from $2.22 billion at December 31, 2025. Real estate and related lease intangibles, net was $654.15 million, down from $703.54 million.
The gap between GAAP pretax income and distributable earnings partly reflected a $34.94 million adjustment for accumulated depreciation and amortization on real estate sold and held-for-sale. Total other income was $90.07 million, and gain on real estate, net was $65.63 million. The quarter also carried a $3.5 million charge-off of allowance for credit losses. That leaves some of the quarter's lift tied to real estate transactions, not only lending spread income.
