Why it matters

OptimistFi's case is that ORRF works if the enlarged franchise keeps producing normalized earnings without giving them back through funding costs or credit losses. This filing is mixed on that test. OptimistFi calculates net income rose by $1.6 million from the second quarter. Net interest income rose $4.5 million to $53.3 million, and the efficiency ratio improved to 56.0% from 60.1%.

Credit also improved. Classified loans fell by $4.0 million, or 8%, and nonaccrual loans declined to 0.54% of total loans from 0.58%. The allowance for credit losses on loans was $46.8 million, or 1.11% of total loans. Net charge-offs were $1.0 million, down from $1.2 million. The offset is funding pressure, because deposits fell $38.1 million and FHLB advances and other borrowings rose to $417.3 million, mainly to fund loan growth.

Shareholders' equity fell $16.5 million, mostly because of other comprehensive losses of $34.5 million and dividends of $5.9 million. That was partly offset by net income of $22.8 million and share-based compensation activity of $1.1 million. The change in other comprehensive losses came from higher net unrealized losses on investment securities as spreads widened and rates rose.

What's next

The next dated event is the cash dividend payment on November 10, 2026, for shareholders of record as of November 3, 2026. A steadier deposit base and less borrowing would strengthen the case. Another quarter of deposit decline would weaken it.
