Where the growth came from
The Americas segment is most of the business. Its revenue rose 21% to $5.65 billion, including approximately 2 percentage points from acquisitions. Organic revenue rose 19%. Segment bookings were $5.7 billion, up 18%, for a book-to-bill of 101%.
Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia Pacific booked faster than they billed. EMEA bookings rose 40% and its book-to-bill was 147%, yet revenue rose only 1%. Asia Pacific bookings rose 22% against revenue growth of 8%, for a book-to-bill of 128%.

Margins and earnings per share
Earnings per share grew faster than operating profit. Adjusted continuing EPS was $4.86 against $3.88 a year earlier. GAAP continuing EPS was $4.79 against $3.82. Both rose 25%. Adjusted operating income rose 15% to $1.36 billion.
The adjusted operating margin slipped to 20.2% from 20.6%. The GAAP margin fell to 19.9% from 20.3%. The GAAP effective tax rate was 17.1% against 21.2% a year earlier, and diluted shares were 221.4 million against 224.4 million.
Margins diverged by region. The Americas adjusted operating margin rose 50 basis points to 22.3%. EMEA fell 250 basis points to 17.2% and Asia Pacific fell 390 basis points to 18.6%.
Adjustments between GAAP and adjusted EPS came to $0.07 a share. They covered acquisition costs, amortization of an acquired backlog intangible asset and restructuring costs.
Why it matters
OptimistFi has argued that Trane compounds if customers keep paying for efficient, reliable systems and the company turns that demand into higher-margin cash earnings. The quarter supports the demand half. Revenue rose $1.02 billion, or 17.7%, from $5.74 billion in the third quarter of 2025. The backlog gives the company a larger order book to work through.
Cash conversion also supports the case. Year-to-date free cash flow was $2.83 billion, up approximately 60% from $1.79 billion in the first nine months of 2025. Cash from continuing operations was $3.06 billion.
The margin half is not yet proven. Adjusted operating margin fell 40 basis points and two of three segments lost margin. Management points to supply chain and inflationary headwinds. Acquisitions also added to Americas revenue growth, so the 16% organic gain is the cleaner read on demand.
Where the cash went
Through October, Trane deployed or committed approximately $3.4 billion of capital. That included approximately $930 million for dividends, $1.08 billion for mergers and acquisitions and $1.4 billion for share repurchases.
Debt was $4.22 billion on Sept. 30, down from $4.62 billion a year earlier. Cash was $1.23 billion. The company says it expects to pay a competitive and growing dividend and to return 100% of excess cash to shareholders over time.
What's next
Trane expects full-year 2026 reported revenue growth of approximately 13.5% and organic growth of approximately 11% versus 2025. It reaffirmed adjusted continuing EPS of $15.20 to $15.30. GAAP continuing EPS is expected at $15.00 to $15.10, including $0.20 for non-GAAP adjustments.
Nine-month adjusted EPS was $11.79. That implies a fourth quarter of $3.41 to $3.51, below the third quarter. The fourth-quarter and full-year 2026 report will show whether Trane lands in that range and whether the adjusted margin stops slipping. Margin gains alongside the larger backlog would strengthen the case. Further compression would weaken it.
